Who we are
Untethered Tales is a small, family-friendly choose-your-own-adventure game where the story, art, and narration are generated by AI. This policy describes what we collect, why, and who we share it with.
Accounts are intended for adults. If you are a parent or guardian playing with a child, you control the account.
What we collect
- Account info from your sign-in provider. When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile picture, and a Google account identifier. If you sign in with email and password, we collect that email address.
- Gameplay you create. Heroes you create (name, stats, generated portrait), quests you start, the choices you make, dice rolls, and the scenes the AI writes for you.
- Generated media. Scene illustrations and audio narration produced for your quests are stored so the app can show them to you on later visits.
- Operational telemetry. Anonymized usage events (e.g. number of scenes generated, AI token counts) used to monitor cost and reliability. No content of your prompts or stories is included in this telemetry.
- Standard server logs. IP address, user-agent, request paths, and timestamps, kept briefly for security and debugging.
We do not collect payment information. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
How we use it
- To create your account and keep you signed in.
- To generate, store, and replay the quests, art, and audio you create in the game.
- To monitor performance, prevent abuse, and fix bugs.
- To contact you about your account or material changes to the service. We do not send marketing email.
Service providers we share data with
We use the following third parties to run the service. Each receives only the data needed for its function and is bound by its own privacy terms.
- Clerk — authentication and account management.
- Google— only when you choose “Sign in with Google,” for the purpose of verifying your identity.
- Vercel — application hosting and media storage (Vercel Blob).
- Neon — managed Postgres database for your account and gameplay data.
- Anthropic(via Vercel AI Gateway) — generates the narrative text of each scene from prompts that include your party’s state and recent choices.
- Black Forest Labs and Google (image models, via Vercel AI Gateway) — generate scene illustrations and hero portraits from text prompts.
- OpenAI — generates spoken narration audio from the text of each scene.
These providers process the prompt and response data needed to produce each result. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.
Cookies and similar technologies
Clerk sets cookies needed to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The app stores a small amount of data in your browser (e.g. preferences) so it can work offline.
How long we keep data
We keep your account, heroes, quests, and generated media for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual heroes or quests from inside the app at any time. To delete your entire account and the data tied to it, email us at jeffcox@gmail.com and we’ll process the request within 30 days.
Operational telemetry and server logs are retained briefly (typically under 90 days).
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email jeffcox@gmail.com.
Children
Untethered Tales is designed to be family-friendly, but accounts are intended for users aged 13 and over. Children should only play under the supervision of a parent or guardian who controls the account. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. For material changes, we’ll also notify you in the app or by email.
